Thanks once again to Dai Le Duy
for his incredible contribution of photographs.
Above Dai is wearing: 1) on the
left, ARVN Ranger Pattern camoflage uniform (sometimes referred to as heavy
weight final pattern), & 2) on the right, 1st pattern of airborne camoflage
patterned after the British "SAS" camoflage windproof as used by the French
in the First Indochine War.
Below, a close up of that pattern
of uniform, followed by a variation.
Below is a close up of an Airborne
uniform badged out on the ARVN Camoflage that was a copy of the US ERDL.
Like the US Camo, this was issued in ripstop as well as plain poplin variations.
Below: 2 photos of ARVN Airborne
in combat.
Award being given to the 1st Airborne
Brigade at Hoang Hoa Tham Headquarters.
9th Airborne Battalion enjoying
a performer at their headquarters. I guess this is the ARVN equivalent
of a USO show, although whether or not a formal organization like the USO
was in place, I do not know.
The following three photographs
are more combat images. The boy in the first one seems to be pointing out
where the enemy is to the Airborne soldier. Contrary to the left wing propoganda
in this country and abroad, the enemy was the VC and the NVA!!!
The smiles of the best Airborne
soldiers. These are not the faces of "puppet" troops as the VC and NVA
proganda would have you believe the ARVN forces were. These are the faces
of proud, brave, and dedicated men!!!!
Below: ARVN Airborne insignia
charts.
