ARVN:Uniforms & MiscellaneousThis section contains photographs of various ARVN camoflage uniforms and headgear. Use of these photos without the prior consent of the owner of this page is prohibited. Below is a photograph of an early ARVN Ranger "duck hunter" uniform--sometimes called "dapple" pattern. This is but one variant of many. (Dai Le Duy collection)
Yet another variation, Vietnamese made, of the "duck hunter" camoflage. Many ARVN Ranger units used these patterns and their variations very early in the war. This particular variant has eppaualettes and French style buttons. (author's collection)
RVN National Field Police Camoflage uniform. Some ARVN units wore this camoflage as well. (author's collection)
ARVN Ranger camoflage pattern shirt and pants badged out to ARVN Ranger. This 4 pocket pattern shirt is also considered by many to be a late war pattern. (Dai Le Duy collection)
An interesting ARVN Ranger camoflage pattern shirt, badged out to Airborne Reconnaisance soldier. Notice it has been tailored in the French style with zippered side pockets on the chest. (author's collection)
This is a very late war issue ARVN Ranger camo shirt and pants, badged to an airborne unit. Notice angled, covered button flaps. You can see this same style shirt being worn by some of the late war ARVN rangers shown in the ARVN Ranger and Airborne page (author's collection)
Here is an example of a well worn US ERDL pattern camoflage ARVN Ranger uniform. Not easily seen in photo is re-inforced elbows, shoulders and knees of uniform. Another distinction is the single button flap pockets and shoulder straps (author's collection)
Here is a rather nice almost unissued example of the US type ERDL late war ARVN camoflage as badged out to a Ranger. (Dai Le Duy collection)
The following photo shows various types of headgear in use by ARVN forces. One item to note is the early green fatigue cap in center front. This cap had ear and neck flaps for the sun. The other cap of note is the US Marine corps "style" cap in both green and camoflage. Although this was supposed to be worn by Naval and Marine personnel of the AFVN, many RVN troops from all branches used it because it was very stylish! Note also the Airborne and Ranger berets, Ranger helmet, and ARVN Ranger camoflage and plain green ARVN "boonie" hats.
