Who am I? Why do I care about Vietnam?

I am a historian. I have my Masters degree in History from Temple University where I studied under Dr. Russel Weigley (Eisenhower's Lieutenants, etc.), and Dr. Dennis Rubini. My two areas were 20th Century Military History and Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism in Northern Ireland (circa 1969 to 1989).

I am a collector. I began collecting militaria in 1976 starting out with WW II and American Civil War items. My collecting interests coincided with my historical concerns centering on the Vietnam War in approximately 1987.

I was a Second Lieutenant in the New York Guard. I filled a Captain's slot as battalion S-2. I went on the State Reserve list in 1990.

I am a "Living Historian". I started out as a re-enactor in 1976 re-enacting the American Civil War. I soon got into re-enacting the American Revolutionary War, WW I, WW II, and to an extent--Vietnam. About 1985 my emphasis began shifting from re-enacting to putting on public displays or private living history events. Presently, my re-enacting days are pretty much over and I devote the majority of my time to research, displays, collecting, and this page.

Why my interest in the Vietnam War? The catalyst was remembering how I sent Kool-Aid to my cousin who served in the Americal Division in 1969-70. I grew up in the 1960's and early 1970's. The TV show The Wonder Years may as well have been called Lee's Childhood. My interest in the Vietnam War grew as I met several vets and talked with them and began to read more books about it. I studied Air Mobility and the First Cavalry Division while in grad school and had the opportunity to meet Walter "Joe" Marm (7th Cav Medal of Honor recipient for actions in Ia Drang Valley, Vietnam) during one of my early Vietnam displays. His words to me were very encouraging and I have nothing but nice things to say about this man.

Since the start of this web page such a short time ago, the feedback I have received from all of you has been overwhelmingly positive. However, let me say this - please do not hesitate to send me ANY feedback, good or bad. All I ask of you is this: if your feedback IS negative, please include a suggestion as to how to resolve or improve what you perceive to be the negative portion of this page. What good is complaining if you have no constructive suggestions to resolve the problem?

So, please continue to enjoy my page. Please support it by submitting photos and stories. Please feel free to use the "Veterans" section to post ads to find your missing Vietnam War buddies.

Also, as you know, I am very up front and honest about being a collector. Please keep me in mind for any uniforms, equipment, bringback weapons(I have an FFL), and souvenirs that you may feel comfortable in parting with or selling. Remember, I am an avid collector of "bad guy" stuff (NVA and VC)!

Thank you all and enjoy the page!
